Head of Data Science

Who are we?

Our mission at Webiks is to create powerful, data-driven applications and models that help our clients innovate and grow. We build custom software and custom models for clients from multiple industries, including Defense, Security, Health, and Automotive. We think long-term. Forming long-lasting strong relationships and partnerships with our clients is at the core of our strategy.

Who you are?

As our Head of Data Science, you will be managing our Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Data Science functions. You are a Data Science beast - you are comfortable with all major areas of machine intelligence, including Computer Vision, NLP, Tabular Data, Time Series, and Reinforcement Learning. You are a Deep Learning enthusiast, however, you understand that, sometimes, good old ML modeling and feature engineering perform much better. Your understanding of Statistics is better than 99.8% of the population (95% confidence interval = 99.7% - 99.9% 🤓).

What’s this job about?

As our Head of Data Science, you will be responsible for: Translate our clients’ broad requirements into well-framed Data Science challenges. Build plans, as good and detailed as possible, for Data Science projects, from idea to production, while fulfilling a set of constraints (budget, time, data, and more). Adapt and improvise as those plans collapse and fail to meet the real-world (they always do). Develop and train, by yourself, rapid prototypes and proofs-of-concept to test new ideas and to explore their feasibility and their potential value to relevant stakeholders. Drive the end-to-end execution of our Data Science projects process, including understanding the requirements and goals, set the criteria, data exploration, model selection, training, and evaluation, all the way to full-scale implementation and integration. Manage end-to-end Kaggle-style Data Science competitions, on behalf of our clients. Lead and mentor our enthusiastic and talented, but less experienced, Data Scientists - through example, evidence and clear communication. You are expected to be the patient mentor and the over-achieving pace-setter - at the same time! Build our team. If all goes well, you are expected to grow our Data Science team from 3-4 Data Scientists to a team of ~10 - in 12 - 18 months. Pursue business opportunities. We don’t hire salespeople. Our managers drive sales through intimate communication with our clients. You are expected to assist our customers to thoroughly understand the value of hidden potentials that can be unleashed by hiring us. Maintain a highly cross-disciplinary perspective, solving issues by applying approaches and methods from across a variety of Data Science disciplines and related fields. Continuously evolve yourself by keeping up to date with the latest Data Science, Machine Learning & Deep Learning technologies. You’ll be reporting to our CEO and will be a part of our management team. You are expected to actively take part in forming the company’s growth strategy.

  • You flourish when you are surrounded by talented, sharp-minded people.
  • You think big - but you are everything but a bigshot. You love doing things yourself. You like mentoring others. You’ll never take a job that doesn’t have a significant hands-on portion.
  • You are a great communicator. You write, you talk, you appear, you communicate.
  • You are open. You understand that the only reason you have reached so far is that you were able to stand on the shoulders of giants. You truly believe the principles of the open movement - Open Source, Open Data & Open Innovation.
  • You are a competitor. “Bestfitting” Kaggle winner is your role model.

  • Deep technical expertise in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning.
  • MSc or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.)
  • At least 5 years of successful, hands-on, Data Science positions.
  • You can code. Your code quality meets the typical Software Engineering standard (and not only the typical Data Science standard).
  • Proficient in Python.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (Tensorflow, Pytorch, Keras).
  • An all-around data scientist: strong statistics background, experience in experimentation, data visualization, machine learning algorithms, optimization, and big data.
  • You are comfortable at reading academic papers and reproducing their results.

Please attach to your email at least three links to three of the followings:

  • A paper you have published (arXiv included).
  • A technical blogpost you have written (English or Hebrew).
  • A lecture/presentation you gave in a meetup/course/conference.
  • A Kaggle competition you have participated in and scored well.
  • An open-source project you have contributed to.
  • A Jupyter / Colab notebook you have published.
